Castle Combe Circuit is a fast race circuit located in Chippenham in Wiltshire, about 20 miles from Bristol.
Castle Combe Circuit is on an old World War 2 RAF airbase that was opened in 1941 and decommission in 1948. The Castle Combe Circuit was then used for it’s first motorsport event in 1950 and has since had motor racing stars such as Stirling Moss, Mike Hawthorn and John Surtees race the circuit.
The original circuit was kept in it’s same format right through to 1999 when 2 new chicanes were added to the circuit to slow down the cars following a death of a spectator at the circuit.
Castle Combe Race Circuit is 1.85 miles long and consists of 7 turns. The lap record for the new circuit with the chicanes is 59.387 seconds that was done by a British F3 car in 2005.
However, Castle Combe Circuit has noise restrictions in place and as such is no longer able to host the British Formula 3 Championship, British Touring Cars or the British GT Championship as these cars go over the permitted sound levels.
