Lamborghini are to start looking more at their supercars weight reduction than bigger engines.
The news comes from the Lamborghini CEO, Stephan Winkelmann who said that with European laws on emissions being tightened they are struggling to justify higher output engine that will give higher top speeds but instead think weight reduction and faster acceleration is the way to go.
The Lamborghini’s diet is likely to come with the replacement of high strength steel beign replaced with lighter materials such as aluminimum and carbon fibre.
Ultimately most drivers will get more use out of faster acceleration than they will the top end speed, unless the car is beign taken on track it is unlikely most Lamborghini drivers will get to take their cars up to the magical top end speed all that often as well.
A Koenigsegg CXX has been crashed, not by it’s owner but by an employee of the car dealership that the owner had left it with.
This blue 806 bhp Koenigsegg was crashed by an employee of a New York garage that it had been left at by the owner, presumably to have some work done to it, but instead of getting it back as expected the owner won’t have been pleased to find that an employee had take it out for a blast and not only managed to crash it but also hit a new Porsche GT2 in the process. We are unsure if the Koenigsegg and the Porsche GT2 were racing or not!
The Koenigsegg is a super rare supercar and there are only 25 of these beasts made per year (so we think it’s going to be a while before we see a Koenigsegg driving experience available unfortunately), and costs over £400,000.
The new Ferrari 458 Italia is the latest Ferrari to be launched and what a stunner it is!
The name gives away the details you need to know about it’s engine, a 4.5 Litre V8 that will take the Ferrari 458 over the 200mph barrier and hit 202mph with the 562 prancing horses it has under the bonnet.
The Ferrari 458 Italia is the replacement of the Ferrari F430, one of the best looking Ferrari’s built. So to replace such a beautiful car as the F430 the 458 had a lot to live up to…but don’t worry, it’s managed it in spades!
The front has a totally new looking set of lights that stretch their way up the bonnet and the rest of the aluminium body smoothly curves it’s way to the rear of the car where the prancing stallion sits against a flat rear with the unique 3 centrally positioned exhausts poke out.
Since it is made of aluminium the car is light weight and weighs in at 1,380kg (although this weight is without any water or oil in the car).
The gearbox in the Ferrari 458 is a twin clutch with 7 speed and this is what you will be using when you put your pedal to the metal to see it’s 0-62mph time of 3.4 seconds.
There was input from Michael Schumacher with this Ferrari so you know that it is going to be something special.
Unfortunately at the moment there are no Ferrari 458 driving experiences available, however we expect that they will be before too long. Why not look at other Ferrari driving experiences as an alternative and just as much fun!
A replica of the famous Ferrari F1 racing car has been recreated in a Puma store by using £40,000 of clothing.
The F1 car was made using 1999 items which included 1682 T-shirts, 88 pairs of jeans, 64 pairs of shoes, 31 belts, water bottles, sunglasses, baseball cap and a backpack.
The car measures 14 feet long with the designers spending a week in a studio experimenting how to construct it out of clothing. The car was then built in 5 hours overnight by 8 people in the Puma store in Carnaby Street, London.
Since the single seater racing car is made out of piles of clothes people are not allowed to touch it as it would likely damage it. It was done to mark the partnership between Ferrari and Puma of the new PUMA racing shoes.
A time lapse video was created so you can see how the Ferrari clothing car was built with the Ferrari cap on the end of the nose cone being one of the best features.
As far as supercars go the Ferrari Enzo is likely to be on almost everyones list of supercars to drive.
Then there is the Ferrari FXX, this is a modified version of the Enzo and has been limited to a production of just 30 of them with only those lucky enough being invited to buy one.
The thing with the FXX is that it is not road legal and owners can only drive it when Ferrari put on a driving experience day available for the owners to give their beast a drive, the owners don’t even get to keep it as Ferrari keep them stored for their owners too!
So for any Ferrari Enzo owners who would like to buy an FXX but would like to drive it on the road there is a solution. A German car turning company called Edo Competition take your Enzo and over the course of 3 months will transform it into what is in all extent and purpose a Ferrari FXX as they will change the looks and how it performs. Most importantly the transformation also means that it will be road legal, meaning that it can be driven where you want!
The engine has been increased from 660bhp up to 840bhp with the weight being reduced by 210lbs.
Edo Competition have called their tuned Ferrari Enzo the Enzo XX Evolution which won’t have made the guys at Ferrari happy, the fact alone that any Ferrari getting modified won’t impress them either.
So, all we need to hope for now is that one of the driving experience companies buys a Ferrari Enzo, pays the hefty fee to puts it through the transformation into the Enzo XX Evolution and then let us car fanatics take it on track. That said, we think a Ferrari driving experience in an Enzo alone would be more than most of us could dream of doing!
Aston Martin has lost the top spot as Britain’s coolest brand as it gets pushed down to second spot by the iPhone!
The famed British Car manufacturer has held top spot for the 3 previous yeas and will continue to be one of the favourites despite it losing one place to the gadget.
Ferrari lost 2 places and moved down to 15th position while Mini rose 11 places up to 17th overall. These were the only automotive brands in the top 20 with Lamborghini dropping out of the top 20 this year.
Despite this, Aston Martin is certainly still one of the top cars that turn peoples heads. They are available to drive too on driving experiences such as the Aston martin driving experience at Elvington.
Much of the coolness surrounding the Aston Martin is through the involvement with a certain Mr James Bond who has driven Aston Martins throughout his days. However appearing in movies is only part of it, the fact that Aston Martins are so popular is due to their looks and performance. They are elegant and classy but have a naughty side that it makes them all fun to drive.
